Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Croatia, Josip Dabro of the right-wing Fatherland Movement, resigned from his position after journalists published a recording of him shooting a gun through the window of a moving car.

“I am irrevocably resigning from my position for moral reasons,” Josip Dabro wrote on Facebook on the night from Friday to Saturday. He assured that during his term of office he was guided by “a clear vision and determination to introduce much-needed changes in the ministry of agriculture, forestry and fisheries, combat irregularities and create transparent and honest relations in the ministry.”

Dabro fired shots from the car window

The Jutarnji list daily published a video on Friday showing Dabro firing several shots from a handgun from the passenger seat through a car window near a populated area. The politician apologized, claiming it was a moment of thoughtlessness.

A representative of the Croatian Democratic Community (HDZ) coalition party of Prime Minister Andrej Plenković noted that the weapon was registered and was in his possession legally.

Government Croatia called the incident “irresponsible behavior.” Croatian media emphasized that the prosecutor's office would investigate whether the politician committed an offense by shooting from a moving car.
