Officials in the Bulgarian capital discovered a crocodile in the city's outskirts. The animal was living in a hole dug in the ground near one of the roads.
After receiving a tip-off, officials found the crocodile in the small town of Botunets, about 20 kilometers from Sofia. Veterinary services were called and the two-meter reptile was quickly transported to a safe place.
The crocodile's owners claimed to be circus performers and had all the necessary documents to keep the animal. However, they did not produce them and could not prove that the crocodile had been legally brought into the country.
It turned out that the area where the animal was staying is state property. Several trees were illegally cut down and containers were placed there – describes the portal nova.bg.
This is not the first case of a wild animal being kept in inappropriate conditions in Sofia. A few years ago, there was a lot of noise about two tigers being kept in terrible conditions in an illegal private zoo.
