Recently, there has been a significant reduction in the number of staff in the US and Canadian embassies, according to the independent Cuban media and the Spanish online newspaper 20Minutos. The reason is supposed to be an atypical syndrome of neurological diseases called the “Havana syndrome”.
A mysterious disease known as the “Havana syndrome” consists of a series of neurological ailments possibly caused by an attack by radio waves. 14ymedio recalled on Friday that with the increasing number of cases of the syndrome, the number of staff at the US diplomatic mission in Cuba has fallen sharply in recent years.
Officials leave the embassies
The diplomats and security workers working at the embassy, as well as their family members, began to leave Cuba as their health problems worsened, mainly headaches, memory lapses and vomiting. The situation is similar in the case of the Canadian embassy in Havana, where 14 officials were to leave Cuba due to health problems.
14ymedio pointed out that on Thursday the Kremlin denied that it was behind actions causing a mysterious disease among diplomats working in Cuba, as some American media recently suggested.
Another independent Cuban website, CiberCuba, also indicates that in recent years the Americans have reduced the size of the embassy in Havana to a minimum. He says this is due to the high number of cases of “Havana syndrome”.
The portal notes that the first such case concerned one of the employees of the US embassy in Havana. He reminds that the American services called the events “acoustic attacks”, and in total more than 200 Americans were to fall victim to them, including diplomats working in China, Germany and Austria.
