Cybersecurity Threat in Poland. NASK Received Almost 1,600 Notifications Over the Weekend

Over the weekend, CSIRT NASK received a total of 1,599 reports regarding cybersecurity threats, the Ministry of Digital Affairs reported on Monday. It added that a total of 240 new incidents were recorded over the weekend. The CERT Polska team's warning list includes over 200 sites that extort data and money from Poles.

The Computer Security Incident Response Team of the Scientific and Academic Computer Network – National Research Institute (CSIRT NASK) received Last Saturday, there were 872 reports of cybersecurity threats, while on Sunday there were 727 – the Ministry of Digital Affairs reported on the X portal. Among the reports received, 117 new cybersecurity incidents were identified on Saturday and 123 on Sunday. As added, these incidents “are currently being handled”.

Experts warn about online threats

It was also reported that the CERT Polska (Computer Emergency Response Team) team added the following to the warning list over the weekend: over 200 websites that extort data and money from Poles. On Saturday, 98 such domains were entered, while on Sunday there were 119 of them.

The CSIRT team of the Ministry of National Defence received 17,232 cybersecurity reports, of which 13 incidents were identified concerning the activity of hacktivist groups (using hacking techniques to promote their own goals, e.g. social or political).

Received reports regarding cybersecurity are the basis for registering new threats or security incidents, or are assigned to previously reported incidents. They may also be registered for statistical purposes as not having the nature of reporting a real threat or incident.

NASK is a state research institute supervised by the Ministry of Digital Affairs. As NASK informs on its website, its key field of activity is activities related to ensuring internet security. The Cybersecurity Center Division, which includes the CERT Polska team, is responsible for responding to incidents that violate network security in Poland and coordinating activities in this area.
