Cyclone Biparjoy has already begun to worry people in southern Pakistan and western India. At least seven people have died so far due to the bad weather. Children are among the dead.

South Pakistan has already begun to feel the weather effects of Cyclone Biparjoy, the Indian Meteorological Office said. According to forecasts, the cyclone is likely to hit the border between the two countries on Thursday evening and bring with it wind gusts of 150-200 kilometers per hour.

Seven fatalities

Indian authorities said they had begun preventive evacuations of residents on the west coast. It’s not safe there now. On Monday evening, four boys drowned in the sea because they were unable to get out of the rough waves.

“So far we have found the bodies of two of them and the search for the others is still ongoing,” said one Mumbai police officer.

Tens of thousands of evacuations are planned

Forecasters say that the cyclone’s impact will severely affect the inhabitants of eight coastal regions. The authorities therefore appealed for a halt to fishing and lessons in schools. There are fears that the phenomenon will affect many oil rigs and ports. Dozens of rescue teams are already working in the field to intervene in case of emergencies.

– We have started evacuation from coastal areas. More than seven thousand people have been evacuated so far, and the number is expected to exceed 50-60 thousand, said Kamal Dayani, a government official.

Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority also announced that it had begun to prepare for the arrival of the element. Precautions have been taken in the southern and south-eastern parts of the country, which are most vulnerable to the disaster.
