Cypriot police confirm the arrest in Nicosia of an armed foreigner – this person was supposed to prepare attacks on “Israelis doing business in Cyprus”. In light of this information, Israel accuses Iran of planning attacks on businessmen residing in Cyprus.
“The person in possession of the pistol and cartridges was detained,” said Cypriot police chief Stelios Papatheodorou on Monday. According to the press, the arrest took place on September 27 in Nicosia near the checkpoint connecting the Turkish-controlled north of the city with its southern part.
According to the Cypriot press, the arrested person is suspected of preparing attacks on “Israelis doing business in Cyprus”. He is an Azerbaijani citizen with a Russian passport, aged 38 or 39.
Israel accuses Iran of planning attacks on Israeli businessmen in Cyprus
In connection with the incident, Israel accused Iran on Monday of planning attacks on Israeli businessmen residing in Cyprus. “It was a terrorist incident organized by Iran against Israeli businessmen living in Cyprus,” said Matan Sidi, spokesman for Israel’s Prime Minister Naftali Benet on Monday.
“This regime always makes unfounded allegations against the Islamic Republic of Iran,” replied the Iranian embassy in Cyprus.
