The Pirate Party is leaving the government of Petr Fiala, confirmed Deputy Prime Minister for Digital Affairs and Minister of Development Ivan Bartosz. The Pirates have three ministers in the cabinet, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Lipavski. The question of his continued mission in the government is open.

The government crisis in Cech is accompanied by far-reaching statements and assessments. Pirate politicians speak of fraud on the part of the prime minister and that Prime Minister Petr Fiala threw them out of the government. The prime minister speaks of the “managerial incompetence” of his minister, which was supposed to have caused a motion to the president to dismiss.

Fiala, after the government meeting on Wednesday, announced that he had sent the necessary documents to President Petr Pavel regarding Bartosz's resignation. The president is in New York for a session UN and announced that upon his return on Monday he would meet with the heads of the coalition political parties and the Prime Minister.

Fiala wants the deputy prime minister, minister of labour and leader of the Christian Democratic party Marian Jureczka to temporarily take over Bartosz's duties in the government. This decision must be confirmed by the president. The prime minister decided on Wednesday that the consequence of Bartosz's aforementioned managerial incompetence, mainly in the matter of digitising the process of obtaining permits to start and carry out construction, will be the taking over of Pirat's competences by the minister of transport Martin Kupka.

Lipavski resigns from his position as head of Czech diplomacy

Commentators point out that the consequence of the Pirates leaving the government is the resignation of Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský, whose activities, especially those concerning security, are very highly rated by partners in the government and by allies.

Lipavsky, who is also in New York for the UN session, announced that he would resign along with other Pirate members in the government, but would also resign from the party. The declaration sparked speculation that Lipavsky might remain in the cabinet.

The Czech Pirate Party is the smallest party in the government coalition it has joined, with four members of parliament. With them, the government has a majority of 108 votes. Thus, the Pirates' departure does not cause any problems with passing the prepared bills.

The party was founded in 2009 as one of the progressive European formations and, compared to other parties, it was the most successful. It had members of parliament and MEPs, as well as ministers. Serious problems and, as commentators write, a change of wind in the pirate sails came with the poor results in the elections to the European Parliament and the last elections to the local governments of the Czech regions.
