Daniel Obajtek is to be questioned at the next meeting of the parliamentary commission of inquiry into the visa scandal. As its boss, Michał Szczerba, said, the former president of Orlen did not receive the summons for questioning, so the police will now attempt to deliver it.

The former president of Orlen stayed summoned before the committee on May 28. The next day, the former president of Grupa Azoty, Tomasz Hinc, is to be a witness. The Commission wants to ask them, among other things, about the employment of foreigners in the investments of both companies: Olefina III and Polimery Police.

The chairman of the parliamentary commission of inquiry into the visa scandal, Michał Szczerba, said that Daniel Obajtek he did not receive the summons for questioning. He informed that he would ask the prosecutor general to serve a summons to the police to appear as a witness. Such a procedure is enabled by a resolution adopted in February by the committee pursuant to the Act on the Sejm Investigative Committee. It was used to summon the former boss Ministry of Interior and Administration Mariusz Kamiński.

Recently, the media and politicians have speculated that Obajtek is abroad.

Many questions for Obajtek

Szczerba emphasized that the commission had many questions for the former head of Orlen, including why he did not employ a Polish company and Polish entrepreneurs to build the Olefiny III petrochemical complex. – When other entities were applying for the opportunity to participate in this investment, he employed an international corporation that took advantage of foreigners, bringing them from all over the world, not ensuring the security of this system, allowing the issuance of visas to people who resigned from their jobs, no one followed their fate – he said. – The question is whether in the 21st century it is possible to employ a company that created a kind of labor camp for several thousand people, built barracks in which the conditions were unworthy and workers' rights were violated, or whether a company that has the eagle symbol in its logo should be so behave and what Daniel Obajtek knew in this matter – added the MP.

As he said, both in the case of Orlen's and Azoty Group's investments, the system was leaked, which was used to illegally grant visas to foreigners who were not supposed to work on these investments at all.

Last week The National Labor Inspectorate organized an information point for foreigners building an Olefin III installation complex at the Orlen production plant in Płock. None of the employees who used this form of contact filed a complaint.

When will the report on the committee's work be released?

In addition to hearing the testimony of Obajtek and Hinc, the parliamentary investigative committee is planning two more hearings: on June 4, the former head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zbigniew Rau, and on June 5, the president PIS Jarosław Kaczyński.

– The first version of the report on the committee's work will be presented on June 10. The commission's work will end with reports to the prosecutor's office against specific people whose role was not appropriate, who did not fulfill their duties, neglected them, and, in my opinion, even enabled the corruption system that was created around the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Szczerba.

He added that the committee would want to remove the confidentiality clause from some of the documents it has.

The Commission is investigating abuses, negligence and omissions in the legalization of the stay of foreigners in Poland in the period from November 12, 2019 to November 20, 2023.
