Death of a pregnant Izabela in Pszczyna. Demonstrations on city streets

In many Polish cities, there were further protests after the death of a pregnant 30-year-old woman in a hospital in Pszczyna (Silesia Province). Hundreds of people took to the streets of Poznań and Tomaszów Mazowiecki, among others. The protesters, they say, demand human rights and choice.

Pregnant in September Izabela, 30, died in a hospital in Pszczynabecause the doctors had to wait for the fetus to die. This case was described on October 29 by legal counsel Jolanta Budzowska, representative of the deceased family. She wrote that it was a consequence of last year’s judgment of the Constitutional Tribunal led by Julia Przyłębska, tightening the abortion law.

In the following days, the public learned more information about the circumstances of the 30-year-old’s death. The mother of the deceased revealed the textswhich showed that her daughter feared for her life. One of women who were in a room with Izabela.

On Saturday, protests in memory of the deceased will be held in many cities in Poland – including Warsaw in front of the building of the Constitutional Tribunal. There were also demonstrations on Friday, among others, in Poznań and Tomaszów Mazowiecki.

– We have to show the authorities that we, the citizens, want to have human rights, we want normality in our country – said one of the participants of the demonstration in the center of Poznań. – Instead of encouraging us to expand our families, we are going the other way – one of the demonstrators pointed out.

One of the residents of Poznań assessed that “under the current regime, the abortion regulations will not be changed”. – However, we want to come back to the compromise – she added.

– I do not give my consent for someone to rule my conscience, for someone to take away my humanity, my choice – said one of the participants of the protest in Tomaszów Mazowiecki. – A woman should have a choice and doctors should also have a choice and the right to help such women – emphasized another of the demonstrators.
