The police headquarters in Maputo announced that they learned about the ambassador's death late, “after the body had been transported to the main municipal hospital” in the capital.

When the officers learned about the diplomat's allegedly “sudden death,” they went to a medical facility, but “the body had already been placed in the hospital mortuary.”

The policemen who arrived at the hospital received information from the Russian consul Yuri Doroshenko, not to take any action related to performing an autopsy.

“The police only took photos of the deceased's body in the mortuary (…) as well as photos inside the residence,” it was emphasized.

According to the Russian authorities, the ambassador's sudden death could have been the result of a stroke.
