MEPs voted in favor of introducing an additional day off from work on Christmas Eve from 2025. The CBA detained the former head of SLD, Wojciech O. Parents of prematurely born children and those hospitalized after birth will have extended maternity leave. Here are five things to know on Thursday, November 28.
1. The Sejm decided on Christmas Eve being free from work
MEPs voted in favor of introducing an additional day off from work on Christmas Eve. 425 MPs voted for the adoption of the act, 10 against. 12 MPs abstained from voting.
The changes will come into force in 2025. The amendment also provides that from next year, three Sundays preceding Christmas Eve will be commercial.

2. Former chairman of the SLD detained by the CBA
The CBA detained six people in an investigation conducted for several years under the supervision of the prosecutor's office. Among those detained is Wojciech O., former chairman SLDformer Minister of Agriculture.
“The case concerns crimes of an economic nature. Details will be provided after the activities are completed, including after the charges are presented,” added Przemysław Nowak, spokesman for the National Prosecutor's Office.
3. Longer leave for parents of hospitalized children
Parents of prematurely born children and those hospitalized after birth will have extended maternity leave – the Sejm decided unanimously on Wednesday, amending the Labor Code.
428 MPs voted for the amendment, no one was against and no one abstained. The amendment will now go to the Senate.

4. The Supreme Court refused to adopt a resolution in the Korneluk case
On Wednesday, the Supreme Court refused to adopt a resolution on whether prosecutor Dariusz Korneluk is authorized to perform the duties of a national prosecutor. – The task of the Supreme Court is not to provide legal advice – explained judge Wiesław Kozielewicz.
The spokesman for the National Prosecutor's Office commented that, according to the Supreme Court, the Prime Minister took “all necessary actions” before deciding to appoint Korneluk to this position.
5. Poles divided over Duda's presidency
IN survey Opinia24 for “Fakty” TVN and TVN24, respondents were asked a question about how they assess the upcoming presidency Andrzej Duda. 47 percent of respondents assessed it as good, 45 percent as bad, and eight percent answered “I don't know/it's hard to say”.
President Andrzej Duda will end his term in August 2025. The presidential elections will take place in May 2025. According to the announcement of the Speaker of the Sejm, the election campaign is to start on January 8.
