On the second day of the Democratic Party convention in Chicago, five thousand delegates symbolically cast their votes to confirm Kamala Harris' nomination for president of the United States. The binding vote took place virtually in early August.

Kamala Harris was voted for by all delegates from 57 states and overseas territories, as well as those representing Americans voting abroad. During the ceremony, a representative from each delegation announced that they had cast all of their votes for Harris and her vice presidential candidate, Tim Walz.

Among the speakers were those mentioned among the potential successors Joe Biden Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and California Governor Gavin Newsom.

Unlike past convention votes, this year’s was largely symbolic, with the party officially voting on the vice presidential nominee in a virtual vote earlier in the day, due to an ambiguity in local Ohio law that set a deadline for declaring candidates for election.
