The average rainfall for the whole of August in Denmark is 82 l/sq m, which means that in some places the equivalent of rain from the middle of the month fell in a dozen or so hours.

Flooding and rescue operations

Such heavy rain did not remain without an impact on the functioning of the Danish capital. Social media showed photos of flooded streets in the Hellerup and Gentofte districts on the outskirts of Copenhagen. Several streets were flooded – water was seeping into vehicles trying to cross it.

A dangerous situation occurred on Lyngbyvej road, one of the access roads to the capital. Cars were stuck in the water, and the woman driving one of them had to escape from the water on the roof of the vehicle. The driver of a truck, which got stuck in a depression under the viaduct, could not leave the vehicle either. Rescuers came to the aid of the trapped. Some roads remained closed until the night from Sunday to Monday.
