Despite his announcement, PiS president Jarosław Kaczyński did not appear at the farmers' protest in Brussels. – We simply held meetings in a formula that was, on the one hand, really effective, but on the other hand, it did not involve various possibilities of various incidents, he said. – For example, we are as far away from the idea of Polexit as possible – he added. As TVN24 correspondent in Brussels Maciej Sokołowski reported, the demonstration was not as large as announced.

President PIS Jaroslaw Kaczynski was in Brussels on Tuesday. As he said, “he came here due to the farmers' protest.”

TVN24 correspondent in Brussels, Maciej Sokołowski, reported that the farmers' demonstration in Brussels was not as large as announced. – Mainly, these protests were moved outside the city to the Atomium area. There, in the park, there were speeches from 12 o'clock, he said.

– The Belgian media have been writing for several days that there will not be a large turnout during this demonstration, because according to the Belgian media, these are not actually farmers, but mainly right-wing organizations, mainly from Netherlands, German and Poland, who come to Brussels, and Belgian farmers were not supposed to appear there. There was a moment when individual groups were welcomed from the stage, mentioning these countries. Indeed, the delegation from Poland was very large. A few people from Germany, and a lot mainly from the Netherlands. When the name came up Belgiumfew people spoke up because organizations from Belgium France they ignored this protest, said Sokołowski.

A TVN24 correspondent said it was clearly political a few days before elections to the European Parliament. – There were many such votes: who to vote for in these elections, how to remove the current government in the European Union, how to vote against the head of the European Commission – Sokołowski reported.

As he said, representatives of the Confederation were present on the stage.

Kaczyński did not appear at the protest

According to the announcement, the PiS president was to appear there. Party spokesman Rafał Bochenek wrote on the X website in the morning that Kaczyński was supposed to arrive there around noon. “Speech by Prime Minister JK today around 12:30 (Park at Atomium) Location below.” – he wrote.

“At 12:00, the largest #Protest of Farmers from the entire European Union in years starts! I am with them today, PiS President J. Kaczyński will be with us. We do not agree to the absurdities of the #GreenLad,” wrote PiS MEP Anna Zalewska.

Ultimately, Kaczyński did not appear at the demonstration.

Kaczyński: we held meetings in a formula that did not involve the possibility of various incidents

At a press conference after 5 p.m., he said that “there were very interesting meetings with farmers, sometimes quite long ones that allowed us to clarify various issues.”

A TVN24 correspondent asked Kaczyński about the change of plans. He noted that his appearance at the demonstration was announced after 12 p.m.

– I don't know who announced it – replied the PiS president. – We had planned meetings with agricultural organizations all day long and we finished literally half an hour ago – added the PiS MEP. Adam Bielan.

– Nothing unexpected happened here. We simply held meetings in a formula that was, on the one hand, really effective, but on the other hand, it did not involve various possibilities of various incidents, he said. – For example, we are as far away from the idea of Polexit as possible – he added.

When asked whether the posters that appeared there with the slogans “Polexit” and “anti-vaccinationists” caused a change in plans, Kaczyński replied that “it was not a change of plans because these matters were taken into account by us in advance.” .

Kaczyński about the Green Deal

– We are definitely against the Green Deal, against madness, against everything that harms not only the interests of farmers, but also democracy, because democracy assumes that individual social groups are guaranteed some status and that this status is inviolable, much less possibilities within the democratic system (…) of annihilating a social group. And what is happening in connection with the Green Deal, when it comes to farmers – and on a European scale, not on a Polish scale – basically means annihilation – Kaczyński said at the briefing.

The PiS president noted that the “first Green Deal” was worth supporting, which, unlike the current one, concerned “less controversial issues”, such as animal welfare. – This “second Green Deal” means not only the annihilation of agriculture, but also a huge hit, to put it simply, in the wallets of Europeans. This also means a hit to the European economy, he said. In his opinion, the EU's position in the global economy is retreating and this process should not be deepened.

An EU commissioner from PiS praised the Green Deal: it is in Poland's interest

Back in 2020, the EU Commissioner for Agriculture, Janusz Wojciechowski, a PiS politician, indicated during a panel at the “Poland Great Project” congress that thanks to the Green Deal, the costs of agricultural production would decrease. He added that “green agriculture” is in Poland's interest.

In his opinion, the bonuses were to be given to farmers who have their own feed, and not to producers who depend on feed imported from long distances. As he said, promoting protein crops on own farms and reducing the need for importing feed from overseas will reduce energy expenditure and lower production costs. – These are the benefits we are very much counting on – emphasized Wojciechowski.
