At 9 p.m., the Sejm is scheduled to start work on the motion of President Andrzej Duda for consent to the extension of the state of emergency on the Polish-Belarusian border by 60 days. Immediately after the debate, a vote will take place, scheduled for 10.30 pm. Watch the report on tvn24.pl.

The state of emergency has been in force since September 2 in the border zone with Belarus in part of the Lubelskie and Podlaskie voivodeships. It was introduced for 30 days by a presidential ordinance issued at the request of the government. Government representatives justified the need to introduce a state of emergency with the situation on the border with Belarus and the Zapad exercise by Russian and Belarusian troops.

Andrzej Duda signed an application to extend the state of emergency for 60 days on Wednesday. The head of the National Security Bureau, Paweł Soloch, informed that the president shared the arguments of the government on the need to extend the state of emergency.

  • “Today, by 4:00 p.m., there were already 434 attempts to illegally cross the border from Belarus to Poland. We are afraid that another record will be broken. The Belarusian side attracts more and more foreigners to its territory, which then brutally forces them to cross the border with Poland” – wrote in Thursday on Twitter of the Border Guard.

Poland by 2050 will vote against the extension of the state of emergency, informed the head of the circle, Hanna Gill-Piątek. In her opinion, the government is not coping with the situation at the border and is trying to cover this fact with a state of emergency and cutting off the media from access to this zone.

  • The Left Club will vote against the president’s motion to extend the state of emergency. This state of affairs is introduced only to build an atmosphere of fear and conceal the actions of the government, said Krzysztof Śmiszek, the deputy head of the Left Party club.
