You can win 36,000 tickets for train travel across Europe in the next edition of the EU DiscoverEU program. Thanks to it, people aged 18 can travel around the continent for free and also receive a special card entitling them to many discounts when traveling. To take advantage of these opportunities, complete the quiz.

Applications for the European Commission’s DiscoverEU program have been accepted since October 4. Its basic assumption is to enable young people to travel around Europe, learn about its cultural richness and history and establish contacts with people. People selected in the competition will be able to travel for a minimum of 1 day and a maximum of 30 days between March 1, 2024 and May 31, 2025. They will receive tickets for rail travel and the DiscoverEU European youth card, which entitles them to discounts, for example, on admission to tourist and sports facilities, paying for courses and workshops, local transport, accommodation and meals.

DiscoverEU – who can take part?

The program is open to people who were born between January 1, 2005 and December 31, 2005, i.e. 18-year-olds this year. They must have citizenship or residence in one of the EU countries or IcelandLiechtenstein, North Macedonia, NorwaySerbia and Turkey. They must also provide the correct ID, passport or residence card number in the application form. The next step is to take the quiz and answer an additional question. The number of tickets that can be won in a given country is proportional to its population in relation to other countries. This year, there were a total of 36,000 tickets in the pool.

The competition winners will be able to choose two travel options. One is a fixed itinerary in which you can visit a maximum of two countries or two cities in the same country, and the other is a flexible itinerary in which the number of countries is not limited, but you can spend no more than a total week on travel. In the latter option, you can travel by as many trains as you want during any seven days you choose. However, please remember that reservations are required on some trains and the number of seats on the train may be limited (European Commission does not cover the costs of booking seats in the flexible variant, but in the agreed variant). Each winner is entitled to a ticket worth €273.35, both fixed and flexible. Tickets will only be valid for 2nd class travel. Details about program variants and travel options can be found here here.

The program operator is the Eurail Group, which brings together 36 European rail and ferry carriers. According to information PKP Intercity, almost 10,000 people took part in last year’s edition of the competition. Poles, of which over 2.7 thousand was rewarded with free tickets. According to survey conducted by Eurostat on the occasion of the European Year of Youth – however, only 5% know about this initiative. young Polish men and women.
