Moana, which was first launched in 2016, is already being tailored for a live-action movie. Disney revealed the brand new challenge with a video featuring Dwayne Johnson, who performs Maui within the animated film.

“Like its animated predecessor, the movie will have fun the islands, communities and traditions of Pacific Islanders as seen by way of the eyes of a younger girl wanting to pave her personal path,” Disney wrote in a press launch. “Moana’s journey of self-discovery and reflection on the lives of her ancestors gained hearts worldwide, as did her newfound friendship with an exiled demigod named Maui.” Disney didn’t say when the brand new movie is likely to be launched.

The brand new Moana will be part of Disney’s rising slate of live-action remakes, together with The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and subsequent month’s The Little Mermaid. The remakes I’ve watched haven’t lived as much as their animated predecessors, however most have proven to be lucrative, so it’s not precisely shocking that Disney is adapting a more moderen hit like Moana right into a live-action movie.
