We plug ours in every day phones for charging, often using random cables that we have at hand. Meanwhile, the quality of the cable may determine not only the charging time, but also the safety of our device. Let's checkwhich is worth paying attention to.
Short or long – that is the question
We know from physics that the longer the path, the greater the resistance. It works exactly the same with cables. It must be clearly said – a long cable is the enemy of fast charging. A one-and-a-half-meter cable can charge the phone up to three times slower than its three-times shorter counterpart.
Thickness matters
Under the colorful sheath of the cable lies its heart, i.e. the copper core. The thicker it is, the more current it can pass. Unfortunately, manufacturers of cheap substitutes often cut corners by using thin cables. Effect? Not only does charging take longer, but the cable may overheat. An overheated cable is a direct path to failure. Modern smartphones can charge quickly – some models reach a power of even 100 W or more. But it's all for naught if we use a bad cable.
Data also counts
Modern USB cables do more than just charge. They are also used to transfer data, update software or connect accessories. But not every cable can do this. The cheapest models are often limited to charging only. Modern USB-C cables can support image and sound transmission, which allows you to connect your phone to monitor or TV. It's worth remembering this, especially if you often transfer files between your phone and computer.
How to choose the right cable?
There are plenty of cheap cables on the market, often with attractive braids and vivid colors. However, in this case, appearances can be deceptive. A solid cable should have not only good plugs and braiding, but above all, a core of appropriate quality. It is also worth paying attention to certificates – especially with iPhones, where the MFi certificate can protect us from charging problems.
Let's not look for savings at any cost. A good cable is an investment in the safety of your equipment. Let's check if the cable parameters match our charger. Let's also consider the length and most importantly – let's choose proven producers. Saving a few zlotys may cost us much more.
