If there is any lesson from the history of the 20th and 21st centuries for America and the entire West, it is that if you do not react in advance, out of some savings, you will later pay 10-100 times more – said Paweł Kowal from the Coalition in “Kropka nad i” on TVN24 Civic. He referred in this way to Donald Trump’s statements, including about Russia and NATO. – Let PiS politicians who have good contacts in the Trump camp buy a ticket, go to America and lobby. Because now is the time to talk seriously, he added.

Paweł Kowal, chairman of the parliamentary foreign affairs committee, who is to be the government’s plenipotentiary for reconstruction Ukrainecommented on the statement Donald Trump regarding cooperation within NATO. Most recently former president USA he said that would “encourage” Russia to “do whatever it likes” with NATO countries that “don’t pay”, that is, they spend less than 2 percent of GDP on defense. “I wouldn’t defend such a country,” Trump declared. The statement was criticized by, among others, White House.

Kowal on “lessons from the history of the 20th and 21st centuries for America and the entire West”

– This is terrible what presidential candidate Trump and former President Trump are saying. This is really terrible for security. I always look at it with deadly seriousness and then I think that we are standing on the edge of history. Because every time this isolationist madness has occurred in America, every time it has happened in the last hundred years, it has led to war or big trouble. And this is the irresponsibility of Donald Trump’s speech, which we have the right to criticize, because we are talking about common security, he said.

– Yesterday I corresponded with one of the most outstanding conservative American publicists, (…), who wrote brilliantly to Trump’s people: “do you understand that you even lose economically, because if you don’t give this money to Ukraine, you lose jobs in Alabama , because the equipment that will go (to Ukraine – ed.) is produced there. And secondly: “don’t you understand that today the cost of helping Ukraine is high, but relatively small,” he continued. – If we wait two years, we will all pay much more – he added.

– If there is any lesson from the history of the 20th and 21st centuries for America and the entire West, it is that if you do not react in advance, out of some savings, you will end up paying 10-100 times more later. And this is the only thing I have to say to President Trump, Kowal continued.

Kowal: This may be the time for real lobbying

According to Kowal, Trump’s statements are “ruining the entire American policy and, as a result, also American security.”

– What we do today, every day, (…) is mobilize Germans, French, also Americans. If President Duda would like to discuss this seriously, I only have one idea. Let PiS politicians who have good contacts in the Trump camp buy a ticket, no problem, (…), go to America and lobby. Because now is the time to talk seriously. Let them reach every Trump man. Because I don’t know if it’s possible to talk to Trump, because his politics are characterized by deep instability. But he has many people around him that we know. These are not anonymous names, he said.

According to Kowal, this is “perhaps the time for real lobbying, because it doesn’t cost much now.” – Now it may cost a ticket to America, and one day it may cost the lives of people in our part of the world, our loved ones – he added.

Kowal on relations with Ukraine: everyone should remain calm here

Kowal also talked about tensions in relations with Ukraine, including the grain issue.

– I think that everyone here should remain calm, because Ukrainians are our friends and we are friends of Ukrainians. We have shown this over the last two years and I think that anyone who has common sense and can fully understand it knows this – he said.

– Will there be problems between two neighbors such as Poland and Ukraine, where we have almost everything in common? They will. Do Polish farmers have a problem with the arrival of Ukrainian grain? They have a problem. And not only (they have a problem – ed.) various agricultural products. And our role is to solve it. What has changed after October 15, and in fact since December, is that we are actually solving it, he continued.

At the same time, he emphasized that “Poland is today one of the most important advocates of Ukraine in the international arena.”
