At 12 p.m. local time (6 p.m. in Poland) the culmination of the ceremony took place – the President of the Supreme Court, John Roberts, received the presidential oath from Trump. Later, Trump delivered his inaugural speech. He announced, among other things, the introduction of a state of heightened alert on the southern US border, the sending of soldiers there and the declaration of a national state of emergency in the field of energy.
Unexpected silence and a cappella performance
During the ceremony at the Capitol, country singer Carrie Underwood performed, among others. However, it encountered technical problems.
First, the music played for just a few seconds, then the sound stopped, and then there was silence for several minutes. During this time, former presidents, among others, looked around the room, trying to understand what was happening. Although the atmosphere was rather awkward, some of the gathered people had smiles on their faces. Bill Clinton seemed amused by the whole situation.
Finally, Underwood sang “America the Beautiful” a cappella, with the help of the gathered guests.
