Within two years, Poland will be among the 5-6 countries in Europe with the lowest inflation – assured Donald Tusk, the leader of the PO, who spoke at a meeting with students at the University of Opole about “restoring the elementary principles that the central bank guards what it has written in constitution, stop spending unrestrictedly where there is a political interest. He made a bet with a participant of the meeting for a symbolic one euro that he knew a way to radically limit the increase in prices.
– Core inflation is at a very high level. The central bank, instead of defending its inflation target, is carrying out the wishes of the political authority. (…) Today, the most expensive social client of this power is this power. For the first time since 1989, we have an authority that spends so much money on itself that it affects macroeconomic processes, such as inflation, because we are talking about billions of zlotys spent on the whims of power, argued the PO politician.
Inflation, stability, energy security
According to Tusk – who recalled that when he handed over power, inflation in Poland was at zero, he made a bet with a participant of the meeting for a symbolic one euro that he knew a way to radically reduce it.
– Restoring the elementary principle that the central bank guards what it has written in the constitution, stopping unlimited spending where there is a political interest. (…) The introduction of this ironclad logic will quickly bring positive results. Within two years, Poland will be among 5-6 countries in Europe with the lowest inflation, assured Tusk. When asked about the chances of simplifying the legal system and restoring the stability of the system, the PO leader said that many of them were introduced by PIS changes in the law were made in violation of the constitution and the law, so their restoration to the previous state will not require new laws. He was in favor of making the Attorney General independent of politicians, but admitted that this would require an appropriate force in parliament that would be able to reject the expected opposition from the president Andrzej Duda.
Referring to the issue of energy security, Tusk assessed that the only way to ensure the supply of energy supplementing RES and which could replace coal-fired power plants in the foreseeable future is the construction of nuclear power plants. In his opinion, it should be one large reactor and several compact ones, which in the next few years should be built on a larger scale in various parts of the world.
Promoting those who want to work
Tusk also denied that the programs he proposed, such as “grandmother’s” or preferential loans, are of a social nature. – It’s exactly the opposite. If a woman goes to work after giving birth to a child, it will be her choice and she will receive 1.5 thousand a month ‘grandmother’s allowance’ earning at least minimum wage, it will give you more in taxes than you get. (…) I want to promote those who want to work. I want state money to activate and enable professional activity and responsibility wherever possible. Let it be a stimulus to even greater activity, and not alms that allow you to spend your whole life in front of the TV or computer – said the PO leader. He noted that “I am not in politics today to insist on some ideology of mine.”
– I was born a liberal in the sense that freedom is the most important thing for me, I have limited trust in the state. (…) The paradox is that in order to protect individuality, individual rights, we cannot leave them alone. (…) We have entered the 21st century with an extremely difficult task, how to protect freedom from the forces that want to take it away, how to protect freedom and how to make the state a patron of people who want to work – Tusk explained. The PO politician also assured that he would be happy to come to Opole again, if only to collect the symbolic euros won in the bet.
