– Today is the Flag Day of the Republic of Poland. Flags, whose white symbolizes purity, nobility and pursuit of good. And red, which symbolizes courage, bravery and blood for his homeland – he says Donald Tusk in a recording published on May 2. Talking about the symbolism of Polish national colors, the prime minister goes a corridor and stairs leading to the roof of the office of the Prime Minister.
Standing on the roof next to the Polish flag, Tusk appeals to the appeal: – Let the white -red in the house as today, here, on the roof of the headquarters of the Polish government. “We are all proud of white and red,” he added in the video description.
May 2 as a day of the Flag of the Republic of Poland
The Flag Day celebrated today was established in 2004, under the amendment to the Act on the emblem, colors and anthem of the Republic of Poland. His celebrations throughout the country are accompanied by numerous events. President Andrzej Duda and his wife will take part in the ceremony of raising the state flag on the Clock Tower of the Royal Castle. White and red colors officially became the colors of the Polish flag over a half century earlier, in 1831. As one of the few in the world they have a heraldic origin. They come from the colors of the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Poland and the coat of arms of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. White comes from the white of the eagle, which is the emblem of Poland, and the white of Pogoń – a knight galloping on a horse, which is an emblem Lithuania. Both of these emblems are on the red backgrounds of the coat of arms. On the flag, white is at the top, because in Polish heraldry the color of the emblem is more important than the background.
The white color is identified with purity. Reds are attributed to the symbolism of courage and bravery. These colors accompanied Poles in all important events. They were a symbol of a state that did not exist, and a nation that stood out under these colors.
Polish flag in debates
