In April, the World Bank announced that it had raised the GDP growth forecast for Poland to 3%. in 2024 from 2.6 percent previously forecast. The forecast for 2025 remains unchanged and amounts to 3.4%. “Next year, GDP growth will be additionally supported by an increase in investments, driven by structural reforms and the inflow of EU funds,” the statement said.

“I don't feel comfortable. Poland will soon overtake Great Britain”

In February last year we reported that Keir Starmer, leader of the Labor Party, made a speech in which he stated that the Conservative Party had put the country on a “path of decline” and that the British were therefore on the path to being poorer than the inhabitants of Poland, Hungary or Romania.

According to analyzes presented by the Labor Party, based on World Bank data, over the next 20 years the economic strength of Great Britain will significantly weaken, giving way to the countries of Eastern Europe. It was indicated that British GDP per capita grew at 0.5% in 2010-2021, while in Poland it was 3.6% and in Hungary 3%. and 3.8 percent in Romania. According to Labor, if this trend continues, the average Briton will be poorer than the average Pole by 2030 and poorer than the inhabitants of Romania and Hungary by 2040.

– Britons are left behind while our European neighbors get richer, both to the east and in countries such as France and Germany. This doesn't suit me. I don't feel comfortable with the trajectory in which Poland will soon overtake Great Britain. I am also not prepared for the consequences of this failure, Starmer said.

– I don't want a Britain where young people from our wonderful cities and towns have no choice but to leave. Brain drain, not only to London or Edinburgh, but also to Lyon, Munich and Warsaw. This is not the future our country deserves, he added.
