The Civic Platform shows up at the start and starts the local government campaign exactly where the parliamentary campaign ended – in Morąg. The meeting with residents included farmers who asked how the government wanted to act on their behalf. For Tusk’s party, the April elections will be the first electoral test after taking power. As in the parliamentary and local government campaigns, Tusk is public enemy number one for PiS. Jarosław Kaczyński sends him to New Zealand, and Przemysław Czarnek accuses the new government of demoralizing children.
It is no coincidence that Donald Tusk is starting a local government election campaign in Morąg. It was there that a few minutes before midnight he ended the parliamentary campaign, which gave victory to the democratic opposition. Today, Tusk wants to show that the Civic Coalition is able to defeat PiS and prove that the result of the parliamentary elections is not a coincidence.
The transfer of power – as Tusk says – is not smooth. – I’m not saying that Mr. Jarosław Kaczyński will fall in love with me, but I would really like him to respect people’s will. Democracy means that everyone respects the common rules of the game, emphasizes the Prime Minister.
As in the parliamentary and local government campaigns, Donald Tusk is public enemy number one for PiS. Jarosław Kaczyński sends him to New Zealand because – as he claims – the current government is a non-Polish government. Przemysław Czarnek, in turn, accuses the new government of demoralizing children by introducing the “morning after” pill without a prescription and promotes the traditional family model. – It is a woman who knows how to take care of children, it is a woman who raises them best. A man is for something else, argues the Law and Justice MP.
In the local government campaign, PiS continues to use the case of Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik, arguing that it is an example of breaking the law by Tusk’s government. On Saturday, both convicted by a final court judgment for abuse of power defended the rule of law in front of the seat of the Constitutional Tribunal. On Sunday, they are on tour.
– The justice system in the case of Kamiński and Wąsik acted illegally – this is Tusk’s country – said Maciej Wąsik, former MP of Law and Justice.
Donald Tusk came to Morąg not as the one fighting for power, but as the one who already rules and has a specific problem to solve. Farmers are protesting all over Poland. They also reported in Mrągowo with tractors.
The head of government admitted that he had to balance how to help Ukraine win the war and not harm Polish agriculture. – We cannot allow ill-conceived decisions – this applies to both Ukraine and the Green Deal – to directly harm the interests of thousands of farmers – emphasized Donald Tusk.
The farmers argued that they were not against the government, they were talking to Deputy Minister Michał Kołodziejczak, but aid for Ukraine was provided at their expense, and they were already at the border. – We have huge amounts of goods in our warehouses that we need to transport until the next harvest. However, all the goods coming from Ukraine make this impossible, says Grzegorz Majewski, a protesting farmer from the Elbląg district.
Tusk announced that he would explain in Europe that when having ambitious ecological goals, we cannot forget about specific people. – I would really like to resolve this conflict, for selfish reasons, but also out of the belief that it simply cannot be like this. In the coming days, you will see a fundamental change in the operation of our services at the border, assured the Prime Minister.
The government also announced that it would reveal a list of those in Poland who made money on trade with Ukraine against the interests of farmers. – No one has had this list before. I am the first person in Poland to request such a list – says Michał Kołodziejczak, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.
On Monday in Paris, the Prime Minister will talk with the President of France about farmers’ protests and aid for Ukraine.
