It only shows 90 seconds to midnight. We are talking about the Doomsday Clock, i.e. the Doomsday Clock, which counts down the time until the world catastrophe. We’ve never been so close to self-destruction before.

The Doomsday Clock was created by a group of nuclear physicists in 1947 and has since been run by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists board at the University of Chicago. The clock is a symbol indicating how close the human species is to self-destruction.

Once a year, scientists update the indicated time based on information and analysis of threats to the existence of humanity. They take into account not only the risks of nuclear weapons, but also climate and technology. Tuesday’s change for the first time “reflects the world in which the invasion Russia to Ukraine has revived fears of nuclear war.

When the clock started ticking in 1947, it showed seven minutes to midnight. The farthest from extinction – as many as 17 minutes before midnight – humanity was in 1991, when the Cold War ended, and USA and the USSR began to reduce nuclear weapons arsenals.

Today the Chicago Clock shows that the world has only 90 seconds to midnight, which means that we are the closest in history to the theoretical point of human doom.
