A heavy downpour hit Milan. Cars were stuck in flooded underpasses, and drivers were evacuated by firefighters. There were significant disruptions on the railways and in metro traffic.

Since Thursday morning, 50 firefighters have been working in Milan, northern Italy, to combat damage caused by heavy rains in the city. Of the more than 100 interventions carried out, most involved rescuing drivers stuck in flooded underpasses. There was so much water that drivers had to climb onto the roofs of their cars. Some vehicles were almost completely submerged in the water.

Firefighters also removed broken trees and drained flooded areas. In Peschiera Borromeo, near Milan, firefighters rescued a disabled man and a woman who were trapped in their home by rising water levels. The Seveso and Lambro rivers flooded after heavy rainfall.

The weather also caused disruptions to rail traffic. Trains on some routes were delayed by 120 minutes. There were also difficulties on one of the metro lines, with several stations closed due to flooding.

Orange downpour warnings are to be in effect for the city until the morning hours, and storms are expected until Thursday evening.

After heavy rainfall, flash floods also occurred in Turin, leaving 50 people trapped in their homes. One person is considered missing.
