Thunderstorms with heavy rainfall swept through Sicily, Italy. In the province of Catania, firefighters had their hands full. They rescued, among others, a man trapped in a car.

Heavy rainfall hit Sicily on Friday. The entire island was subject to third level warnings, i.e. the highest level, against heavy rainfall and strong winds. Italian meteorologists also warned against storms.

A violent storm passed through the province of Catania, where the Etna volcano is located. The disaster was accompanied by heavy rain, which caused flooding. Firefighters' interventions were necessary. The activities consisted mainly of pumping water from flooded roads and buildings, as well as removing broken branches.

Due to strong winds in Paternò, a power pole fell on a parked car. Fortunately, no one was hurt, Italian media report.
