Anna Wielgosz Failed at the Olympic Games in Paris. “It Undermined Me”

In Friday's eliminations, the Polish representative achieved a time of 2:02.54 and took last place in her group. Despite this, she still had a chance to advance to the semi-finals, this time through the repechages. She did not succeed there either, and with a result of 2:05.77 she took the penultimate place in her race. This was not enough to advance.

After finishing the competition, the Polish runner stood before journalists and explained what caused her weaker start. – Halfway through the distance, I started to lose strength. It undermined me. I did what I could, and on top of that, the noise in the stadium distracted me. I was fighting with myself, but also with the injury, because I have had problems with my Achilles tendon since the European Championships. I finished in a distant position and with a weak time. I do not hide the fact that the last three weeks were difficult for me. I was very tired. Maybe we turned the crank when it comes to training – said Wielgosz, quoted by Interia Sport.

Anna Wielgosz has thrown her coffee on the table. “There is great disappointment and sadness”

The athlete openly admitted that her results “are not optimistic”. – There is great disappointment and sadness. I am ashamed. I cannot smile. Everyone is disappointed with me. It turned out badly – she admitted. This puts her starts in the rest of the season in question. But she reacts immediately to an unsuccessful start. She has ambitious plans for the future.

– From today I am making changes to my life, because I have to move forward. Unfulfilled goals do not allow me to end my career. I want to compete in next year's world championships. I do not rule out taking part in the next Olympics – she announced. The question is whether she will continue training under the watchful eye of Jacek Kostrzeba or will she decide on a new trainer?

The semi-finals of the 800m at the Olympic Games in Paris will take place on Sunday, August 4. The final is scheduled for the following day.
