The cow fell into the septic tank with liquid manure – such a report from the village of Drohiczany (Lublin Province) reached the firefighters. They tied the animal with fire hoses and then used a car winch. The action was successful and the cow, under which the concrete floor in the livestock building had collapsed, was saved.
The unusual report was received by the fire brigade on Friday (November 12) around 6.30 am. It showed that the cow fell into a septic tank with slurry located under the livestock building in Drohiczany.
One of the concrete slabs that make up the floor of the building collapsed underneath the animal.
They dismantled part of the roof to run the rope downwards
First, the firemen pumped the slurry out of the septic tank, and then – protected in protective equipment – went inside to tie the cow with hoses and thus prepare it for evacuation.
– The action was not the easiest one. As the building has a low flat roof, the latter had to be partially dismantled in order to lead the rope from above and use a car winch and a telescopic loader to pull the animal out, explains senior captain Marcin Lebiedowicz from the County Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Hrubieszów.
The intervention lasted over six hours
The firefighter informs that five teams participated in the activities – apart from three from the Rescue and Fire Fighting Unit in Hrubieszów, also friends from the Volunteer Fire Brigades in Uchanie and Drohiczany.
– A veterinarian who supervised the condition of the cow during the activities carried out also came to the scene of the incident. The intervention lasted over six hours – emphasizes St. Cpt. Lebiedowicz.
