The police detained a man who attacked a passing 30-year-old man with a bludgeon in a park. The 26-year-old will be charged with attempted murder and bodily harm. He was arrested for three months.

The incident took place on May 16. The officer on duty at the Chełm police station received a report about a man being beaten and hit in the head with a pestle in a park in Dubienka.

“The preliminary findings of the police and the testimonies of witnesses showed that the 26-year-old, without any reason, first kicked a man walking down the alley in the back, then kicked him in the body while he was lying down, and finally hit him in the head with a bludgeon,” we read in the police statement.

The injured party was taken to hospital, and the perpetrator escaped.

On the same day, police arrested the 26-year-old at his home. He had a pestle with him with which he was going to beat the man. He told the police that he was carrying the pestle for self-defense purposes. During questioning, he did not say why he attacked the 30-year-old.

The 26-year-old was charged with attempted murder and causing moderate bodily harm. The man was temporarily arrested for three months.

He faces up to life in prison for attempted murder.
