Duchess Kate, wife of British heir to the throne Prince William, announced on Monday that she has completed a course of chemotherapy, noting that her “road to healing and full recovery is long.” She added that she is looking forward to returning to work.

Kate underwent abdominal surgery in mid-January. In March, she announced that she had been diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing treatment.

On Monday, the Duchess said in a statement released by Kensington Palace that she had completed her chemotherapy treatment.

“As summer draws to a close, it's hard for me to describe how relieved I feel to finally be done with chemotherapy,” she wrote.

“Life as you know it can change in an instant”

“The last nine months have been incredibly difficult for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate through stormy waters and an unfamiliar path,” she added.

The Duchess noted that despite completing chemotherapy, her “road to healing and full recovery is long.”

“I do, however, look forward to getting back to work and taking part in some public appearances over the coming months, whenever I can,” she wrote.

Kate made her first public appearance since her diagnosis in June, taking part in Trooping the Colour, an annual military parade held in central London to mark the birthday of King Charles III.
