According to one of the messages in the network, it is the president of Gdańsk, Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, who is responsible for the disappearance of the plaque commemorating Anna Walentynowicz. The mayor’s spokesman strongly denies it, and the police are investigating what happened.

Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, the mayor of Gdańsk, became a victim of critical comments after a photo of an empty wall of the building, on which a plaque dedicated to Anna Walentynowicz had previously hung, appeared on the network. Looks like the plaque was ripped out with a crowbar. There are a few mounting holes, but also other fresh marks, holes and scratches. “Dulkiewicz seized Anna Walentynowicz’s memorial plaque from the house where she lived,” said one Twitter user, who posted on Twitter on June 30 photo (original spelling).

The case was also commented on by Karol Nawrocki, president of the Institute of National Remembrance. “The Institute of National Remembrance is ready to finance another plaque dedicated to Anna Walentynowicz and no vandal will decide whether the legend of ‘Solidarity’ is commemorated in public space,” Nawrocki told the Polish Press Agency. He admitted that it was not yet known who was behind the removal of the board, but reminded that it was “another such incident in Gdańsk”. The photo was also commented on by Krzysztof Wyszkowski, a former “Solidarity” activist and member of the Institute of National Remembrance college. “The memorial plaque at the place of residence of Anna Walentynowicz has been torn down. Certainly, President Dulkiewicz will go there in protest against the alleged Tuskoid perpetrators” – he wrote on Twitter.

One of the Internet users marked on Twitter, the Pomeranian Voivodship Office, the Gdańsk police, the Gdańsk branch of the Institute of National Remembrance, local media and asked: “What is known about the subject?”. We checked.

Grunwaldzka 49 in Gdańsk-Wrzeszcz. “Anna Walentynowicz (1929-2010) lived in this house. Faithful to God and the idea of a sovereign and strong Poland. Dedicated to the fight for dignified treatment of workers. Anti-communist resistance activist. Legend of Solidarity. As we checked, the author of the popular photo of an empty wall is Michał Błaut, an activist and councilor of the Wrzeszcz-Górny district. Published them on June 29 on his Facebook with the question: “What happened to Anna Walentynowicz’s board?” Then the photo began to circulate on the Internet. The councilor told us that he did not know why the plaque was not there. But he added that she was no longer there on June 18, as shown in the video he recorded that day. Previously, the lack of a plaque, no one paid attention. After the publication of the photo by Błaut, the media took up the matter. The photographer of the Wyborcza.pl agency was in Gdańsk on the spot and confirmed that there was no plaque.

“I don’t live in this house, but a friend called me and informed me that the plaque has disappeared. To remove such a plaque, you need to prepare yourself, have the appropriate, specialized equipment. I talked to my son who lives there and recently saw this plaque. I think if it was to be renovated or removed for the renovation of the building, the manager would notify us” – he told the portal Gdansk.pl Janusz Walentynowicz, son of Anna Walentynowicz. He added that he has various assumptions, but is waiting for police findings.

Is the mayor of Gdańsk, Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, responsible for the disappearance of the plaque? We checked that neither she nor Gdańsk officials announced the removal of the plaque or did not inform about its removal. Daniel Stenzel, the president’s spokesman, in an interview with Konkret24, firmly denied that Aleksandra Dulkiewicz had anything to do with the disappearance of the plaque. – We are formally checking who should make a new one – Konkret24 reported. He also informed that the glasses from the nearby statue of Anna Walentynowicz had also disappeared. “They will come back too,” he said. – Unfortunately, the devastation of monuments is taking place, once the monument of Pope John Paul II and Ronald Reagan was devastated. Most often, however, we make extra drumsticks for the figure of Oskar, sitting next to Gunter Grass. Most often the reason is prosaic – simple hooliganism – said Stenzel.

The building belongs to a housing association and is administered by the Real Estate Management Office “Posesja”. “None of the residents informed us about the loss of the board, although they report with many minor interventions” – informed the Tri-City editorial office of the portal Wyborcza.pl Katarzyna Szurlej, administrator from Posesja. “We have no knowledge of what happened. The police have not contacted us yet either,” she added.

Magdalena Ciska, press officer of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Gdańsk, told us that: “On June 30, on the basis of media reports regarding the theft of a plaque dedicated to Anna Walentynowicz, the policemen dealt with the case and clarified its circumstances. The officers inspected the scene and prepared photographic documentation, conducted conversations with people who may have information about this incident and checked the area for the presence of monitoring. Actions are underway to identify and detain the perpetrator of this crime. perpetrators could cash in such loot.”
