“Dune: Part Two” has a record opening weekend in the US – box office

“Dune: Part Two” took first place at the American box office, earning $81.5 million in its opening weekend. Nearly half of U.S. viewers bought more expensive tickets for screenings in movie theaters with larger screens. An analyst quoted by CNN pointed out why this shouldn’t be a surprise.

“Dune: Part Two,” which hit American theaters on March 1, earned PLN 10,000 on its opening weekend USA USD 81.5 million (approx. PLN 324 million – ed.) – according to estimates from the Warner Bros. studio. Thus, the long-awaited sequel to “Dune” topped the US box office and became the highest-grossing production on the opening weekend in the US this year. According to data from the American company Comscore, no other film starring Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson or Austin Butler earned more during its opening weekend than “Dune: Part Two”. It is also the best opening among director Denis Villeneuve’s films.

Record-breaking opening weekend of “Dune” in the US

– This is exactly what the box office needed and much more than any of us could have predicted – said Jeff Goldstein, responsible for distribution at Warner Bros., as quoted by CNN. Pictures in the USA. He added that “Dune: Part Two” has already earned $178.5 million worldwide. As the American broadcaster reminds, “Dune” from 2021 earned $41 million during its opening weekend in the United States.

Comscore reported that 48 percent people who have so far watched “Dune: Part Two” in American cinemas bought tickets for more expensive screenings than standard ones, in formats such as IMAX Digital or Dolby Cinema. Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Comscore, admitted that “Dune: Part Two” has become “a must-see event on the biggest screen possible.” As he emphasized, “this should not be a surprise, given director Denis Villeneuve’s reputation as a genius using huge cinematic canvases.”

Villeneuve’s new film, like “Dune”, was based on Frank Herbert’s novel of the same title. The film, whose world premiere took place in mid-February, from the beginning receives enthusiastic reviews from viewers and critics.
