Tourists resting by the Baltic Sea in Dziwnów were surprised to see military tracked vehicles maneuvering among sunbathers. We received the recording on Kontakt 24. It turned out that the vehicles visible in the video were returning from the training ground to the base. The military assured us that machine operators were “extremely careful” when driving on public beaches. Comments from beachgoers expressed doubt.

For tourists resting on the Baltic Sea, it was not an obvious sight. PTS (Self-Propelled Floating Transporters), which crossed the beach in Dziwnów on Tuesday. There were soldiers in full uniform. The machines maneuvered among the resting people.

“One does not see, the other directs him: left, right, watch out, deckchair!” – a woman whose voice can be heard in the film of Reporter 24 commented on the maneuvers of the vehicles. Mr. Jerzy came to the seaside on vacation. “There was no advance notice of this crossing,” says the author of the recording.

Military vehicles “meter from the deckchair”

According to Mr. Jerzy, the military appeared on Tuesday around 11.20.

– First, we saw a landing ship on the sea heading towards Świnoujście. Then we heard a noise. Without any warning or message, we saw tanks driving along the beach from Dziwnówek. The soldiers guided each other, maneuvering between sunbathers – he says.

He points out that the military passed by beachgoers. Completely surprised, I’ve never seen anything like it. They passed a meter from our lounger. Afterwards, beachgoers discussed the situation for another hour. A definitely unusual sight – concluded Mr. Jerzy.

On the public beach

As Lieutenant Commander Grzegorz Lewandowski, spokesman for the 8th Coastal Defense Flotilla, explained to the tvn24.pl portal, tourists recorded the return of soldiers from the 8th Sapper Battalion who were moving from the training ground near Dziwnówek towards Dziwnów, where their home unit is.

However, while – as Cdr Lewandowski pointed out – the exercises at the training ground were held in an area closed to outsiders, the ride itself was on public beaches.

– During the journey to the exercise area, operators of PTS (Self-Propelled Floating Transporter) vehicles take special care in places where tourists rest – assured the spokesman of the 8th Coastal Defense Flotilla.

He reported that the passage had been previously arranged with the Maritime Office and the Municipality of Dziwnów. We were unable to contact both institutions on Tuesday.

“You have to get there somehow”

Lieutenant Cmdr. Grzegorz Lewandowski explained during a conversation with our portal that the army must practice and must “get to the training grounds somehow”:

“Alternatively, you could think of shutting down the beaches for military transit, but that would certainly displease tourists and could cause more confusion,” he said.

He added that the training of soldiers from the specialized unit at the land and sea training ground in Dziwnówek has been going on since June 12 and is scheduled to end June 23.

The vehicles were driving along the beach between Dziwnów and Dziwnówek.
