A Polish search and rescue team consisting of 76 PSP firefighters and eight trained dogs arrived at Gaziantep airport during the night. Poles will help in Adiyaman, 160 kilometers away.

On Monday, a strong earthquake hit Turkey, Syria and Lebanon. The magnitude was between 7.4 and 7.8. As a result, entire blocks of flats and hospitals collapsed. Several thousand people died and tens of thousands were injured.

Poles are going to Adiyaman

He explained that first heavy search and rescue teams were sent to the affected region. In a few days, medium groups will come in handy, it will be necessary to set up field hospitals.

What will the work of Poles look like? – There is a lot of determination to get to the scene of the incident. Because our group has to cover 160 kilometers to reach Adiyamanu. It depends on the passability of roads – Feltynowski said. – You need to make a reconnaissance right away and start operations, because in such weather conditions the first 2-3 days are crucial, then the probability of survival will decrease drastically – he explained.

The rescue operation is hampered by weather conditions, the temperature drops below zero at night. – Our rescuers are prepared for such weather conditions – he said.

What does a heavy search and rescue team mean? – A heavy group is one that can be divided into two medium groups. It can operate in two areas up to 100 kilometers apart, working non-stop, he added.
