The 5.1 magnitude earthquake hit the coast of Sicily. The phenomenon was accompanied by several secondary shocks. As the services passed, no buildings were noted. The guard received hundreds of phones from concerned residents.
According to the American geological service, United States Geological Survey (USGS), the shock had a magnitude of 5.1. It was recorded on Friday after 4pm at a distance of 43 kilometers north of the city of Malf in the Sicily region (Messin's province) in the Lipary Islands. According to the Italian research institute, Istituto Nazionale Geofisica E Vulcanology, the shock magnitude was 4.8.

Over an hour of earthquake, eight smaller secondary shocks with a magnitude 2.5-3.4 were recorded. There is no information about any damage to buildings – Ansa Information Agency said, citing local services.
The shocks were felt by the inhabitants of Messina and the Coast of the Tyrhrh Sea. Ansa reports that ceiling lamps were moving at home.
The earthquake was also felt in the city of Palermo, especially on the upper floors of buildings. According to local media, firefighters received hundreds of phones with questions from concerned residents who asked about any destruction.
