The Earthshot Prize, awarded by the Royal Foundation based in London, was inaugurated in 2020 and will be awarded until 2030. Earthshot Prize 2021 – who was awarded?

The first edition of the Earthshot Prize appreciated:

1. Category Protection and Revitalization of Nature: Republic of Costa Rica – Costa Rica is not only a leader in clearing its own forests, but also a country that has doubled the number of trees, becoming an example for others. Costa Rican authorities have been awarded a project that includes a payment scheme to citizens for revitalizing ecosystems leading to a revitalized rainforest.

2. Category Purifying Our Air: Takachar (India) – a social enterprise fighting the incineration of agricultural waste. An Indian company has developed a low-cost, portable tractor hitch technology that transforms post-harvest residues into salable bio-based products such as fuel and fertilizer. At the same time, it reduces by 98%. smoke emission from incinerated waste, which significantly improves air quality.

3. Ocean Revitalization Category: Coral Vita (Bahamas) – a project combating the extinction of the coral reef. Within its framework, thanks to the use of special machines, it is possible to accelerate the process of coral growth by 50 times more than in natural conditions.

4. Category Building a World Without Waste: City of Milan (Italy) for the system of recovering food from supermarkets or employee canteens and transferring the collected resources to non-governmental organizations that direct food products directly to the most needy. Three city centers collect food, which allows for the preparation of 260,000 meals a day. meals.

5. Category Repairing Our Climate: AEM Electrolyser (Thailand / Germany / Italy) – the company has developed a technology to transform renewable electricity into emission-free hydrogen gas. This concept allows you to ecologically fuel cars and planes, power industry and heat homes.

The stage for the Earthshot Prize gala was constructed without the use of plastic, and guests were asked to “consider the environment” when choosing their outfit. Ed Sheeran, Coldplay and KSI took care of the artistic dimension of the event. The electricity necessary to organize the concert was generated by 60 cyclists – BBC News pointed out.
