On Wednesday, the European Parliament in Strasbourg adopted a resolution on strengthening EU defense. As part of it, an unprecedented amendment proposed by the PO-PSL delegation in the European People's Party (EPL), recognizing the east shield, i.e. the flagship project of the Prime Minister Donald Tuskfor the flagship project for the joint security of the EU. The document was adopted by the PE by a vulnerable majority of votes (419 to 204). The resolutions were not supported by PiS MEPs and the Confederation. This was commented by Prime Minister Donald Tusk. “We do everything to make Poland safe, that the East shield is a common task for all of Europe. In the European Parliament, only Russian supporters voted against. Including … PiS! End of illusions” – he wrote on platform X.
Dworczyk argues the decision of PiS MEPs
PiS MEP Michał Dworczyk He argued that Law and Justice It supported the amendment regarding the East shield, but actually voted against the entire resolution on the White Book regarding the future of European defense and had “seven reasons” for this.
Dworczyk accused the EP that instead of thinking about solving real problems, he deals with “unreal ideological projects, where (…) the national interests of the largest countries, such as Germany and France, and the greed of Western arms concerns”.
– Unfortunately, these disadvantages were today's resolution (…) That's why we voted against her party – said MEP.
The politician also mentioned the reasons why PiS voted against the resolution. First of all – the document de facto strikes at NATOwhich is the only guarantee of the security of the Member States. Secondly – he postulates that votes regarding the common security and defense policy take place by a qualified majority, which agrees to the principle of unanimity and makes EU countries lose their real impact on their own defense and become “incapable”. Thirdly – the resolution lacks records on solidarity regarding the expenditure of the Member States for defense. Fourth – he reflects the issues of defense, which are the competences of the Member States, in the hands of EU institutions, including the EC and the Council. Fifthly – the document promotes the European production of arms and technology, which strikes at NATO non -EU partners. Sixth – promotes a confrontational attitude towards USA. And seventh – weakens the native arms industries of the Member States, promoting consolidation and the creation of a uniform European defense market.
