A recording from Elbląg (Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship) appeared on the web, showing how a man abuses a dog, lifting it high on a leash. The case was reported to the police.

The recording appeared on Tuesday on social media on the Spotted: Elbląg profile. It shows a man walking down the street abusing a frightened dog. He lifts it on the leash so high that the animal hangs without resting its paws on the pavement. The video received wide coverage online. There were a lot of comments under it.

Representatives of the Elbląg shelter and the branch of the National Society for the Protection of Animals also came across the recording. The case was reported to the police. The man’s behavior is reprehensible. We have already reported the case to the Elbląg police – Małgorzata Krawczyk, deputy manager of the animal shelter in Elbląg, informed in correspondence with tvn24.pl.

The police in Elbląg is investigating the abuse of a dog

The receipt of the notification was confirmed by Chief Commissioner Krzysztof Nowacki, press officer of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Elbląg. We are investigating animal abuse. The matter requires clarification, and above all, we are now aiming to establish the identity of the man. Małgorzata Krawczyk emphasized that in cases of animal abuse, one should always react and report the case to the police or to an animal protection organization, such as OTOZ Animals.

Harsh penalties for animal abuse

The police say the same thing. – If we witness a given situation and it requires immediate intervention, call the emergency number 112 or 997 and a police patrol will arrive. A noticed problem can also be reported to the following e-mail address:policja@elbląg.ol.policja.gov.pl or via the National Security Threat Map, Nowacki noted.

The police officer also reminded that animal abuse is a crime under Art. 35 of the Animal Protection Act. This is punishable by up to three years in prison, while in cases where the perpetrator acts with particular cruelty, then for such an act he is subject to a penalty of up to five years in prison.
