“He pulls the wolf into the forest”, “there are PiS voters who can be persuaded to something” – write Internet users commenting on the photo of Szymon Hołownia speaking in the church, which was supposed to be created during the politician’s tour of the country. However, the photo is not current.

The campaign for the autumn parliamentary elections has not formally started, but for weeks the leaders and representatives of the largest parties have been touring the country, meeting voters. On April 4, Szymon Hołownia, the leader of the Poland 2050 movement, met with the residents Bydgoszcz; earlier, on March 17, he visited in Siedlce. One Twitter user suggested that the leader of the Polska 2050 movement, Szymon Hołownia, performed in a church as part of such a country tour. “Szymek is touring the country. But why after the churches?” – he wrote on April 16 (original spelling of posts). The tweet was accompanied by a photo showing Szymon Hołownia actually speaking in the church. He is standing in front of the altar, behind the rostrum. The politician gesticulates, he looks as if he is speaking – probably to people sitting in the pews. However, neither the benches nor the audience can be seen in the picture. This tweet has been viewed over 11,000 times. times, collected almost 290 likes.

Many Twitter users commented on the post. Some people were outraged by such alleged activities of Hołownia. “I very rarely go to church (recently I was at a funeral), but I don’t like a layperson at this rostrum, it’s a place for a priest”; “I never enter these temples of debauchery and corruption. But it’s nice that Szymon Hołownia breaks the monopoly on access to these megaphones.”; “Drags the wolf into the forest”; “This is how he will separate the Church from the state,” commented Internet users who believed in the truth of the message in the tweet. One even pasted another photo of Hołownia in the church, writing: “There is no need for a comment here. Altar boy.”

Some of the commentators guessed why Hołownia spoke in the church. “Because there are PiS voters who can be persuaded to something”; “Well, because there they will believe in every scam!; “He gathers support at the conclave…”; “Only there will he find people who will believe in his fairy tales”; “probably you don’t have to pay for rent” – they wrote.

However, not everyone believed the author of the tweet. They noticed that it could be a photo from years ago. “Is this a current photo?”; “You are malicious, Hołownia is not allowed to enter churches now, photo from many years ago”; “Picture taken before entering politics. This is where SH talks about helping people in Africa and the ‘Kasisi’ foundation. Next time, be more careful because you are spreading lies”; “Just tell me which year this photo is from. I would like to point out that Szymek is not my story” – they commented.

Indeed, the photo was not taken at present, during the tour of Hołownia and the activists of his movement around the country.

Photo from the time when Hołownia has not entered politics yet

Using a reverse image search, we found previous releases of this photo. They are shown on the parish website under the invocation of St. George and St. Jadwiga in Kłecko (voivodship Greater Poland). The text is dated April 3, 2016.

Recall: Szymon Hołownia entered Polish politics at the end of 2019. December 8 at the Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre officially announced his run in the 2020 presidential election. He started working with the Poland 2050 movement after the presidential election. On July 31, 2020, he announced the creation of a movement and a party called Polska 2050 by Szymona Hołownia registered in March 2021.

Article on the website of the parish in Kłecko from April 3, 2016parafiaklecko.pl

The text on the parish website describes the meeting of local youth with Hołownia, which was supposed to take place in the spring of 2016. “On Sunday afternoon, April 3, young people from our parish and deanery went to meet Szymon Hołownia, who visited Strzałków. Journalist Szymon Hołownia founded the Kasisi Foundation, which helps run a home for orphaned and sick children in Zambia. He experienced his faith and the joy of helping others” – we read in the article. The author writes about Hołownia: “journalist”, “considered by many people to be a celebrity”, “young TV presenter”, “young man”. I don’t write about him as a politician. The photo that is now used in the quoted tweet is next to the text (the original frame is horizontal), and in a higher resolution in the photo gallery under the material.
