Election campaign on government television. “There is no campaign conducted by opposition parties at all”

– This is where the government television prepares materials every day that, having nothing to do with reality, are primarily intended to support the government in their election campaign – said Donald Tusk in front of the TVP headquarters.

The head of PO announced that there is a campaign and Coalition politicians are returning to TVP journalistic programs to – like Marshal Tomasz Grodzki in his speech – tell the truth, among other things, about the visa scandal.

When Tusk started making his statement, TVP employees left the building and, without waiting for it to end, they started asking questions. There was a scuffle. Donald Tusk wanted to finish his statement, but government television employees interfered. – What does a journalist normally do when he really wants to ask a politician a question, even an uncomfortable question? He comes, listens to the statement or listens to the conference, and then there is time for questions – emphasizes Dr. Krzysztof Grzegorzewski, a media expert from the University of Łódź.

Two hours later, none of the journalists present interrupted the statements of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński. There will be no questions at this meeting. As is the case with many other “press statements” by PiS politicians.

The fact that Tusk is a public enemy on TVP has been known for a long time. However, it is not only about personal attacks on a specific politician. – (In the state media – editor’s note) there is no campaign conducted by opposition parties at all – says Izabela Leszczyna from PO.

Example? On September 9 – five weeks before the elections – the four parties running in the elections present their programs at conventions. The main news program on TVP first featured material about “the specifics of Law and Justice”, then a critical one about the Civic Coalition, in which a public media employee stated that “there were supposed to be a hundred specifics, but what came out was almost a hundred slogans without any specifics.” Not a single word was said about the conventions of the Third Way or the Left. – Government television is involved in supporting and promoting only one political formation – says the president of PSL, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.

After the incident of interrupting Donald Tusk’s speech in front of the state television building, Szymon Hołownia changed the venue of his conference in Poznań to the space in front of the local TVP center.

The head of Poland 2050 announced the reform of public media. – Access to true information, untainted by propaganda, is a human right today – said Hołownia.

The opposition says that TVP only broadcasts PiS election spots and we need to try to break through. – The media, the ones we contribute to, the ones we pay taxes for, are supposed to be public media, where everyone is supposed to have relatively equal opportunities. This is not the case at the moment, so there is obviously no question of equality of elections – emphasizes Dr. Grzegorzewski.

Equality of elections – guaranteed in the constitution – may be disturbed by TVP. – (State television – editor’s note) serves as a party rather than a public apparatus, which means that it is not necessarily willing to look into the hands of the authorities – says Professor Maciej Gutowski from the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, an attorney.

What do PiS politicians say about this? – I have a very good opinion about public media, including TVP – says Michał Dworczyk, minister at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.

The Civic Coalition intends to appear on TVP until the elections. Donald Tusk declares that he is ready to visit government television to – as he says – present the truth in the factory of lies.
