We propose a program to build 300,000 apartments for rent over the next five years. The owners of these apartments will be the state and local governments, said Włodzimierz Czarzasty, co-chairman of the New Left.

On Monday in Koszalin (West Pomeranian Voivodeship), Czarzasty emphasized at a press conference that for Poles, security is not only border defense and armament, but also social and housing security. Meanwhile, in Poland – as he said – there is a shortage of approximately 1.5 million apartments. As proof, he provided data showing that 60 percent young Poles aged 25-30 live with their parents, while Denmark only 4 percent, and in Germany – 18 percent

Construction of apartments – an announcement from the Left

In his opinion, loans to buy an apartment are “not a good idea” because, according to his meetings with young people, they do not have creditworthiness and do not have apartments.

– We have a different idea (…). Building apartments for cheap rent. (…) We propose a program for the construction of 300,000 apartments over the next 5 years. We want the state’s tax money to be used to solve the housing problem in Poland, and at the same time we are saying very firmly – the owners of these apartments will be the state and local governments, said Czarzasty.

He noted that with the co-chairman of the Raz party, Adrian Zandberg, he looked at such a solution implemented in Vienna, where – as he said – the housing problem was “actually solved”.

He emphasized that ownership of a flat is no longer an investment in Poland. As he noted, young people change their place of residence and place of work. – Young people want to have security, they can rent it, as long as it costs little and is of a good standard – Czarzasty pointed out. He estimated that this, one of the key program points of the New Left under the slogan “Housing is a right, not a commodity”, will provide them with this.

“One” of the New Left to the Sejm in the Koszalin district Małgorzata Prokop-Paczkowska recalled data from Koszalin regarding the underutilization of 114 vacant buildings and the low standard of municipal premises, 392 of which do not have a separate bathroom, this one is shared by several apartments, and 21 premises have a bathroom. outside. She also mentioned the homeless who gather at ul. Dworcowa.

– You also need to think about these people, because homelessness can come suddenly – she said, giving the example of when she lost her apartment in 2019 as a result of arson.
