In Warsaw, during the congress of the Polish People’s Party, the president of the PSL was elected. It was again Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. His opponent was MP Stefan Krajewski. The former president of the PSL, Waldemar Pawlak, became the chairman of the Supreme Council, and in the second round of voting he competed with the vice president of the party, Dariusz Klimczak.
In Warsaw, during the congress of the Polish People’s Party, elections were held, among others, for the president of the party. Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced his re-start as the leader of the group in May. Stefan Krajewski announced on Thursday that he would be the opponent of Kosiniak-Kamysz.
– I undertook this task and I will be the counter-candidate of President Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz for the position of the head of the PSL – said Krajewski before the vote. – I positively assess the presidency of Kosiniak-Kamysz, we agree on many issues, but there are several areas where we have a different view – he added. According to the PSL statute, the party president is elected at the congress by an absolute majority of votes from at least two candidates.
Election of the chairman of the Supreme Council
Congress also elected the chairman of the Supreme Council. It was the former president of PSL, Waldemar Pawlak, for whom 408 delegates voted. In the second round, he competed with the party’s vice president, MP Dariusz Klimczak (373 votes). Piotr Zgorzelski, Deputy Speaker of the Sejm, also applied for the position, but he did not get into the second round.
The head of the Supreme Council was previously MEP Jarosław Kalinowski. The MEP announced that he would not run for election again. – I held this position for 17 years and I will not apply for it anymore – he said.
The election of the remaining members of the Supreme Council is still ahead of the peasants.
Pawlak: it is important to maintain a good balance of representation of different backgrounds
Even before the results of the first round were announced, Pawlak said that he would like to continue and develop “the work that Kalinowski conducted”. – In such a way as to create a broader formula of cooperation around the PSL – he emphasized.
Speaking about his vision of managing the Council, the former president of the PSL considered it very important “to maintain a good balance of representation of various circles, different communities that are in the PSL, around the PSL and to maintain the direction that Jarosław Kalinowski led”. – And even broaden such openness of the PSL to cooperation with various circles – added Pawlak.
According to him, it is very important “to build a strong third force”. – So that in Poland we could choose actively, choose the greater good, and not be doomed only to two polarized and fighting environments, which will eventually lead to the fact that we have to choose the lesser evil – he emphasized.
– However, when it comes to running politics, I will suggest to my colleagues in the PSL that they pay attention to this practical side. This means that these initiatives should concern issues that are important for people, for households, and for entrepreneurs. So that the representation of those who work, pay taxes and create added value is definitely stronger – declared Pawlak.
Piotr Zgorzelski with the recommendation of the current deputy head of the Supreme Council
The current deputy head of the Supreme Council of the PSL, MP Marek Sawicki, announced that in the elections for the head of the Supreme Council he would vote for Deputy Marshal Zgorzelski. – I recommended Piotr Zgorzelski at the provincial board meeting. And if I will be able to speak on this matter at the congress, I will also recommend the present deputy speaker of the Sejm – said Sawicki.
The deputy explained that the board of the Mazowieckie voivodship had recently debated, which was constituted and at the same time recommended at the congress for the position of the president of the party, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. He added that among the recommended candidates for the chairman of the Supreme Council there were three candidates: Jarosław Kalinowski, who received 8 votes, Waldemar Pawlak – 17 votes and Piotr Zgorzelski, who obtained 54 votes.
The PSL congress planned for the fall of 2020 was postponed due to the epidemic that made it impossible to carry out the reporting and election campaign in poviat and voivodeship organizations.
