Electricity sellers are to apply a 12% reduction in electricity prices in their bills for 2023, which will amount to a maximum of PLN 125.34. Some energy companies have already sent lower invoices to their customers.

On September 19, an amendment to the regulation on detailed rules for shaping and calculating tariffs and settlements in electricity trade entered into force. It concerns the inclusion of 12% in the bills. discounts electricity prices for households, with the maximum amount by which electricity bills can be reduced is PLN 125.34.

We asked the largest companies with questions about how many customers have already had a reduced bill, how many more will have it and when, and what it looks like in terms of numbers and percentages. On request replied Enea, Energa, E.ON Polska, PGE and Tauron.

Energy companies with reduced electricity bills

“Customers E.ON Polandwho qualify for a reduction in the amount of their electricity bill by 12%, and a maximum of PLN 125.34, will receive it together with the last settlement for the sale of electricity for 2023,” informed the company’s press office team. He added that, according to estimates, ” This will be nearly 9 out of 10 households that are customers of E.ON Polska.

On the E.ON website we can read that customers will receive a discount according to the “billing period (6- or 12-month)”. An example was also given: “If your settlement period is 6 months and the controller’s reading falls in May and November – the reduction will be applied to the settlement invoice for 2023, issued in June 2024.”

In turn, the director of the press office Energy Krzysztof Kopeć announced on Monday that Energa Obrót planned to start the process of reducing bills “this week”. “The conditions specified in the Regulation of the Minister of Climate and Environment, qualifying for a one-off bonus, are met by most customers,” Kopeć said.

Spokeswoman Enei Berenika Ratajczak said: “Some of our clients have already seen a reduction of approximately PLN 125 on their invoices.” “The discount is deducted from the issued electricity invoice, which covers the settlement for 2023,” Enea pointed out. However, in the information regarding the discount, Enea noted on its website: “If you received and did not meet any of the following conditions for applying the discount, in 2024, after verification, we will increase your bill by the amount of PLN 125.34.”

Press office PGE informed that “preliminary calculations show that over 80% of eligible PGE Obrót customers will benefit from the discount of PLN 125.34, but the final number will be known when all applications submitted by correspondence are received and we verify how many customers have met the condition related to the discount.” electricity consumption by 5% in the next three months of 2023. “The company will start calculating the discount en masse in the second half of December this year, and in accordance with the regulation, eligible customers will receive this discount no later than on the last invoice for 2023,” the company explained.

“The vast majority of over 5 million customers will benefit from the discount,” the spokesman said Tauron Daniel Ivan. He also explained: “We will include the discount in electricity bills – no later than in the last electricity invoice for 2023.”

Reduction in electricity prices – conditions

According to the regulation, if the energy consumer (household) meets one of the indicated conditions, the reduction is to be settled “without undue delay”, no later than on the last invoice for 2023.

– confirmation of the correctness of your data held by the electricity seller; – consent to receive correspondence, including VAT invoices, electronically; – consent to receive information from the seller about the products and services provided by him; – being a prosumer, – reduction by 5%. consumption during a period of at least three consecutive months in the first three quarters of 2023; – belonging to one of the groups entitled to benefit from the increased limits up to which electricity prices are frozen in 2023 (applies to people with disabilities, farmers and customers who have a Large Family Card and who have submitted a declaration).

The applicable regulations also assume that if the recipient does not meet any of the above-mentioned conditions entitling him to a discount, the discount calculated in 2023 will be adjusted in invoices for subsequent settlement periods in 2024, but no later than December 31, 2024.
