In 2023, the Tauron Group will install further remote reading meters. The company plans to install 100,000 such devices. The works will be carried out in the Wrocław and Wałbrzych branches. In turn, Energa Operator plans to assemble over 480,000 pieces of the so-called smart meters.

Smart meters, in addition to remote measurement in real time, eliminating the risk of possible reading errors, allow e.g. for ongoing monitoring and better management of energy consumption. Recipients can conduct a detailed analysis of energy consumption in selected periods: day, month or year, as well as simulate costs for individual tariff groups using the prices of a selected seller.

Energa and Tauron are replacing meters

Energa Operator informed on Tuesday that it was dynamically increasing the number of remote reading meters installed in its network. Their number has already exceeded 2 million. This year, Energa Operator plans to install over 480,000 units of such devices.

In the case of Tauron, over a million customers currently have meters with remote reading. “The smart meter installation project is the largest undertaking in the field of measurement and the use of metering data in the Polish energy sector. We assume that by 2030 all our customers will have smart meters” – said Paweł Szczeszek, President of Tauron, quoted in the release.

In the second half of the year, Tauron intends to start replacing meters at the Wrocław and Wałbrzych branches. At the same time, scheduled legalization replacements of meters installed in Wrocław in 2015 will be carried out.

In the years 2023-2026, Tauron wants to replace 2.7 million meters in the branches in Jelenia Góra, Legnica, Wałbrzych, Wrocław and Gliwice, in the years 2025-2028 – 1.4 million meters in the branches in Kraków and Tarnów, and in the years 2027-2028 – 2030 – 1.8 million meters in branches in Będzin, Bielsko-Biała, Opole and Częstochowa.

Statutory obligation

The obligation to replace meters results from the amendment to the Energy Law. According to the regulations, until July 4, 2031, 100 percent. end customers in Poland should be equipped with a remote reading meter. Also, EU regulations provide that by 2028, distribution companies will equip 80 percent of their customers with such devices. your individual customers.
