Elon Musk announced that his supercomputer will power the next version of the Grok AI chatbot

The supercomputer is to consist of combined groups of Nvidia H100 chips with H100 graphics processing units (GPU), which will create GPU clusters at least four times larger than the currently largest ones, reports Reuters. Additionally, Musk added that he is open to cooperation with Oracle to create software for this device.

Nvidia's powerful H100 family of GPUs dominates the AI data center chip market, but may be hard to come by due to high demand.

Musk founded xAI last year as a competitor to Alphabet's Microsoft- and Google-backed OpenAI. Musk also co-founded OpenAI.

Will artificial intelligence replace humans at work?

During an online speech on May 23, Elon Musk told participants of the VivaTech 2024 trade fair in Paris that “probably none of us will have a job.”

– If you want to do a job that feels like a hobby, you can do it. But if not, artificial intelligence and robots will deliver any goods and services, said Elon Musk during a speech addressed to VivaTech 2024 participants.

Additionally, Musk called the development of artificial intelligence his biggest fear. He referred to Ian Banks' “Culture Book Series”, a utopian story about a society ruled by advanced technology. The billionaire described it as the most realistic vision of future artificial intelligence.

At the same time, Musk expressed doubts about whether people would feel emotionally fulfilled in a future free from work.

– If computers and robots can do everything better than you, does your life have meaning? – he said. – I think maybe there is still a role for humans to play. We can give meaning to artificial intelligence, he added.
