The MPs elected five of them in the evening: Monika Wielichowska, Dorota Niedziela (both from the Civic Coalition), Włodzimierz Czarzasty (New Left), Krzysztof Bosak (Confederation) and Piotr Zgorzelski (Trzecia Droga).

The PiS president, presenting Witek’s candidacy before the vote in the plenary hall, said that she had served as Marshal of the Sejm for “over 50 months.” He added that it was an “exceptionally difficult time” because “the opposition declared itself a total opposition.”

Elżbieta Witek also assured in a conversation with journalists that PiS would not propose another candidate for deputy marshal. – It cannot be that someone will nominate candidates for the largest club, the party that won these elections. There will be no other candidate except me, she announced.

She argued that, unlike her predecessors, including Radosław Sikorski, she strived to follow the regulations and respect the rights of the opposition. She stated that for four years, opposition MPs had assured her in private conversations that they highly appreciated her performance in this position. – It is also worth asking why the opposition did not file a motion to dismiss the Speaker of the Sejm if he was so angry – she said. In her opinion, her period as Speaker was a time of challenges that other Speakers of the Sejm had never faced before, such as elections during a pandemic.

Witek also complained about “the hate that has been poured out on me, a modest, inconspicuous woman, for a long time by those who defend women’s rights.” In her opinion, the opposition “must be afraid of something.” “In my opinion, it’s only fear that makes them behave this way,” she said. She added that the most important assessment of her work is the electoral result, which is 50,000 votes higher than in the 2019 elections. – The assessment in the Sejm hall is not important to me.
