Another reform was made, at the same time, in addition to media announcements and such pride that we are doing something serious, we had no plans in our folders or drawers, said Justyna Piszczatowska from Green-news.pl on TVN24, referring to the embargo on Russian coal. According to the expert, “the government has not prepared any remedial measures” to prepare for this step.

– We were in no way prepared for this embargo. At the same time, what I see after the pandemic period, we as consumers are prone to panic. The topic of buying toilet paper and pasta was known to us before. Also, when information about war in Ukraine there was a rush to the banks, we were withdrawing money from an ATM, we also had to introduce restrictions on the sale of fuel at stations. The fact that there is panic on the market today is unfortunately not a surprise – said the expert.

According to Justyna Piszczatowska, “the government has not prepared any remedial measures” to prepare for the embargo on Russian coal. – Polish power plants, which also use coal, they get it from Polish mines. At the same time, it is not suitable for combustion in such domestic stoves, because it has completely different parameters than the coal imported earlier from Russia. Therefore, we are not able to rely on domestic sources, she emphasized.

– Why are we, as a country, introducing a very big market change and we are not prepared for it? I would prefer to leave it unanswered as a rhetorical question. Just another reform was made, at the same time, apart from media announcements and such pride that we were doing something serious, we had no plans in our folders, in drawers. I think it has been a fairly common practice in recent years and it is not just about coal, she said.

The expert also referred to the announcement of the government spokesman, Piotr Mueller, who said that “the policy of the State Treasury companies will lead to a price reduction”. According to Mueller, it will be this “in this month”.

– The market abhors a vacuum, while today we lack about 5 million tons of coal on the Polish market, we are able to import it as a country from alternative directions – with AustraliaSouth Africa, is also said to be Colombia. So these deliveries will reach Poland sooner or later.

Piszczatowska emphasized that it is uncertain whether coal will reach Poland before the heating season. – Such hard evidence that this coal is actually flowing to us and in what amounts, such information is not available yet – she said.
