I was so scared … I thought that if I do anything wrong, it means that I am a terrible person – Hailie Jade Mathers recalls her childhood. Today, Eminem’s 26-year-old daughter decided to talk about growing up in a podcast recorded together with a friend. Much space was devoted to the long-term fear of alcohol and drugs, on which her father was addicted.

The American rapper Eminem has been openly talking about his fight against addiction to alcohol and other stimulants for years. In 2018, he celebrated 10 years of sobriety. The artist often referred to his difficult childhood and youth in his work.

Now his 26-year-old daughter, Hailie Jade Mathers, told about her childhood with a famous father, posting a long conversation with a friend on her social media on Friday.

Eminem’s daughter about childhood

In the first episode of the “Just A Little Shady” podcast, recorded with Brittany Ednie, whom he is friends with from an early age, she remembers carefree moments that seem “surreal” from today’s perspective, but at the time she considered something perfectly normal.

Hailie Jade Mathers admitted that although she grew up when her father was among the top music stars, she considered her childhood to be quite “normal”, she attended a regular public school. With age, however, she began to understand that her childhood was not like that at all. For example, she sometimes invited her friends to the bus that her father used to tour – as a child, she thought that every father had one.

The 26-year-old also recalled the situation when her father, despite the workload, organized a trip to Disneyland for her and her best friend. “My father was working on something because he was working all the time, but he arranged for us a limousine and took us to Disneyland where we had a princess party,” she said, adding that they had special dresses prepared for the trip.

Fear of addiction

Hailie Jade Mathers also talked about her approach to alcohol and other drugs. The woman was not supposed to use them for a long time. As she recalls, in high school she did not drink alcohol and did not go to parties. “I got the feeling everybody did it, but I just didn’t … I was so naive about it all,” she recalls.

As she stated, she grew up with a strong fear of even being around drugs and alcohol. She was afraid that even just associating her with whoever the drinker might get her into trouble. For this reason, she was also supposed to avoid American football matches, she went to such an event only once. “One of my friends came up to me and spoke to my face, and I thought, oh my God, you drink,” she remembers her horror when she was at the game.

Eminem’s daughter stated that in this way she “never got into trouble” growing up because she “never did anything” that would deserve punishment. – I was so scared … I thought that if I do anything wrong, it means that I am a terrible person – he recalls. Hailie Jade Mathers’s approach to stimulants was not to loosen up until her sophomore year, when she joined the student association.

A daughter inspires Eminem

Eminem mentioned Hailie Jade many times in his works. Father and daughter have also recorded together, for example the controversial song “97 Bonnie and Clyde”, in which Eminem raps about getting rid of the dead body of Kim Scott, his partner and Hailie’s mother.

– I lied to Kim and told her that that day I was taking Hailie to Chuck E. Cheese (a restaurant – ed.). But I took her to the studio. When she found out that I used our daughter to write a song about killing her, she got very upset. We just got back together for a couple of weeks. Then I played this song for her and she flew away – recalled the rapper quoted in Rolling Stone magazine.
