Billy Porter, winner of an Emmy for the lead role in “Pose” in 2019, once again caught the most attention on the red carpet ahead of the 73rd Emmy Awards this year. Here are the most interesting red carpet creations.
The Emmy Awards each year brings together the greatest names in American entertainment. It is true that last year – due to the COVID-19 pandemic – the ceremony had a very home character, this year the gala was organized in Los Angeles. Since the ceremony took place with the actual participation of the nominees, they did not disappoint the fans, preparing stylizations that caught the attention of photojournalists and viewers. After all, this type of celebration requires a special setting – especially after a year of pandemic restrictions.
Emmy 2021. The king of the red carpet
He did not disappoint Billy Porter – an actor and singer who gained fame in the United States as a theater actor. The star of the series “Pose” also attracted attention with his styling. The actor wore high-waisted black pants, a close-fitting black turtleneck, the sleeves of which were complemented by pleated elements that were supposed to resemble wings. The styling was created by designer Ashi, who was also chosen by Porter for last year’s Emma award night. The whole was complemented by diamond jewelry: necklace, clips, bracelets and rings. The necklace resembled those worn by Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died last year.
Porter’s friend from the “Pose” set – one of the most anticipated stars of the evening – Mj Rodriguez – opted for a turquoise creation with an asymmetrical top from Versace Atelier. The actress, who is the first transgender person to be nominated for an Emmy for a lead role in the series, told E! That she sketched the creation herself after receiving a “Television Oscar” nomination and the Versace fashion house was her first choice. She also admitted that although she pays tribute to the old Hollywood with her styling, she looks to the future because – as she emphasized – it is the future itself.
Emmy 2021. Sentiment for old Hollywood
Many of the actresses with their stylizations referred to the “golden age” of Hollywood, but in a modernized version. This was the case with Kaley Cuoco, best known for her role as Penny in “The Big Bang Theory”, nominated for her lead role in the series “The Stewardess”. Cuoco wore a flowing canary-colored evening gown.
The curiosity aroused Emma Corrin, who founded the Miu Miu creation. The role of Princess Diana in “The Crown” wore a simple off-shoulder gown, long open-toed gloves complemented by long black nails, and a shower cap.
Gillian Anderson, Emmy winner for her role as Margaret Thatcher, was one of the stars who attended the “remotely” gala, at a special event held at Soho House in London, where nominations from the UK or working on British productions were gathered. Anderson starred in a Chloe dress in a boho style.
Emmy 2021. Bold outfits for men
Although many of the ladies came up with stunning stylizations, when it comes to extravagance, breaking patterns related to what is considered an evening dress – men were in the lead. Many fashion commentators have pointed out that celebrities are increasingly abandoning classic tuxedos or toned-down suits. Although many men chose classic-cut suits, many of them used non-obvious colors: from pink, through mint, turquoise, to graphic patterns.
Josh O’Connor, Emmy winner for his role as Prince Charles in “The Crown” chose a tuxedo from the Loewe fashion house, but instead of a classic bow tie, its collar was decorated with a black flower. Kenan Thompson – twice this year’s Emmy nominee – wore a pink tuxedo. The host of the evening, actor and comedian Cedric the Entertainer appeared on the red carpet wearing a turquoise tuxedo, but entered the stage in a golden jacket, black shirt and black pants. Jason Sudeikis – Emmy Award for Best Actor in a Comedy Series (“Ted Lasso”) wore an emerald velor tuxedo.
This year’s Oscar winner for the music to the film “What in the soul plays” Jon Batiste put on a suit with which he paid tribute to the people of New Orleans. There were photos of his hometown on the fabric from which his suit was made. Some gentlemen decided to break their classic styling with unusual accessories. This is what was done, for example, by Bowen Yang, who was nominated for Emma twice this year, and wore silver wedge shoes.
